1. Nail your landing technique
Make sure both knees hit the ground flat and at the same time. Your knee caps should be parallel to the ground during each slide. Try sitting on your knees and checking where your knee caps contact the ground — adjust until they’re centered on the pads. That’s your landing target every time.

2. Start on all fours
Slide using your hands and knees for at least three days of practice. Don’t rush into knee-only slides until you’re confident in consistently hitting your target. Skipping this step is the most common cause of fast gear wear — and painful wipeouts.

3. Rotate your caps
Most sliders have a dominant side that hits harder. You’ll notice one knee cap wearing down faster than the other — that’s normal. To extend pad life, switch your knee caps periodically during practice and haunt season to keep wear even.

4. Tape is your best defense
At the first sign of wear on your kneepads, shoes, or gloves, wrap the area with heavy-duty tape. This simple fix prevents holes and keeps the foam from breaking down early.

5. Zip ties over laces
Zip ties are a slider’s best friend. Shoe laces won’t survive long under sliding conditions — replace them with zip ties for durability and easy adjustments.

Note: These are the basics foundational tips to help new sliders protect their gear and build proper technique. Master these before moving on to advanced tricks.
